A longer video showing the M7 PowerSaw in operation. This was one of the very first videos produced for the product, and the machine performed exceptionally well from the outset. The M7 is a lightweight, simple sawmill that can be set up directly over a log in almost any location, making it ideal for portable and remote sawmilling.

Because the PowerSaw in its standard format has no chains, hand cranks, shafts or sprockets, it is extremely quick and easy to set up. Its lightweight design also makes it genuinely portable. The components can be hand-carried into the bush, the end frames simply slide into place, and the carriage clips straight on. Everything is light, simple and easy to manage, making the M7 PowerSaw ideal for sawmilling in locations that are difficult to access.

This was Gary’s first time ever operating the M7 PowerSaw, and it shows just how quickly the machine can be picked up. Swing the blade, push it through the log, bring it back, and you’ve produced a board. Simple as that. The M7 is lightweight, straightforward and easy to operate, showing that age doesn’t have to be a limitation when it comes to milling your own timber.

Look at just how easy it is to produce large beams with the M7 PowerSaw. This is a 7-inch by 7-inch beam. Simply push the machine through the log, swing the blade, then pull it back — and you’ve produced a large square beam ready for structural building projects. Fast, simple and incredibly effective.

Check out the improved M7 PowerSaw drive system. We’ve moved away from belts on this model and now use a standard .404 chainsaw chain drive. On a pulley this small, belts can slip under load, whereas the chain provides a positive drive and transfers the chainsaw’s power directly to the sawmill. The concept is simple — much like fitting a chainsaw to a bar, except here you’re connecting your chainsaw to a fully functioning swing-blade sawmill.

Want quiet operation, high torque and the convenience of battery power? Lithium-ion electric chainsaws are becoming a very exciting option for the M7 PowerSaw. At the moment, options include Milwaukee’s dual-battery saw and the smaller Stihl MSA 300. What we’re especially excited about is Stihl’s upcoming larger MSA 600, designed to deliver performance in the 90cc-class range with dual batteries and improved battery endurance. With two sets of batteries and a fast charger, electric power is becoming a very practical option for portable sawmilling. The technology is moving quickly, and we’re excited to see where it goes.

If you need to produce slabs, we have a great option for the M7 PowerSaw. Our rolling carriage simply bolts onto a standard Granberg Alaskan sawmill kit. The latest trolley also incorporates a small hand winch, allowing you to power the saw smoothly through the log while working in a much more comfortable, upright position. It pairs perfectly with the PowerSaw, and you can even have the slabber set up at one end and the swing-blade carriage at the other, giving you two different cutting options on the same sawmill frame.

The PowerSaw is a truly versatile, all-in-one portable sawmill. Cut dimensional timber and large beams with the swing blade, rotate the log when required, then attach the slabber to produce wide slabs. Fit the planer blade and you can also flatten and smooth those slabs, preparing them for final sanding and finishing. From structural timber to wide slabs and finished surfaces, the PowerSaw gives you multiple operations from one simple sawmill system.
